Cindy McQuown is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed

Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor, licensed in the State of Ohio. A graduate

of the University of Akron, she is also a Clinical member of the American Association of

Marital and Family Therapists and the Ohio Counseling Association. Cindy’s clinical

areas of expertise include the treatment of chemical dependency and eating disorders

throughout the lifespan and helping families and couples with these issues. She has

served with a team of professional research consultants on several grant funded initiatives

that serve Medina County. She has presented locally, at the State level, and nationally on

the topic of older adults’ unique vulnerability to problems with medication, alcohol, and

other drugs. She has worked in the development of evaluation plans, data gathering

protocol, and data interpretation. Her work with a highly effective team within Medina

Older Adult service providers, has contributed to the further identification of needs of

older adults relative to substance misuse and abuse issues. She has co-authored research

published in Aging and Mental Health, regarding a promising prevention program for

older adults called Prevention BINGO. She has also co-authored two chapters on issues

of retirement with Dr. Harvey Sterns. She completed the University of Akron’s

certificate in Gerontology in May, 2013.

Cindy currently works in her practice, Illumination Counseling and Consulting Services

and also is an independent consultant serving Medina County older adults and providing

behavioral health programming.

Cindy McQuown is a woman in long term recovery from an eating disorder, and

addiction. Cindy is currently serving on the Hope Recovery Community Advisory Board

and sits on the finance and advocacy committees. She is very involved in the Medina

community advocating for people who may not otherwise have a voice. She is happiest

when working and hanging out with others who struggle with and are walking on the

road of recovery. Cindy lives in Seville, Ohio and is very grateful to be there with her

husband and daughter. She has three grown children and two sets of twin grandchildren.
